Although we call him Squish because of his squishy face, we don’t know what his name was originally. Our owners were volunteering at a dog shelter in Mexico and during that volunteering, they met Apolo. Apolo was at the sanctuary, or municipal impound for eight months. He found himself there after being rescued by the federal police. You see, the human who had him was abusing him. We will spare you the horrible details, but he was not in a safe environment. The neighbors called the police who had to forcibly remove him from the human.

Over the next eight months, Voluntarios Perrunos in Playa del Carmen worked tirelessly to help him recover. It was in his eighth month, he met his forever humans. They were going to foster him temporarily, but failed miserably. He quickly showed his new humans that he was not always in the care of his abuser. Squish knew all the commands that a dog should know, he never barked in the house and never had an accident. His mom and dad think that he got loose or was taken and landed in the unfortunate situation he was found in.

Squish came to Canada and hated the snow. He started going to daycare where he fell in love with the team who looked after him. He made friends and became bilingual in Spanish and English. He fell in love with a little black lab named Lainey. He learned that he is an eternal foodie and has since gone on a ton of adventures with his Mama y Papa. When his daycare closed suddenly, his humans made the impulsive decision to open their own daycare and retained all the previous staff to make the transition easier. We opened our doors in four days.

Since then Squish has become the ambassador for the daycare, taking his happy vibes and toothy smile on every adventure.
